A complex thriller that will keep you guessing who is who and who can you can trust. Evie Porter is dating Ryan Sumner but we quickly discern that Evie is not her identity and Ryan is her latest mark. However, Ryan also has secrets that he is keeping and are both tied to the same mysterious boss, “Mr. Smith?” This fast-paced thriller is a Reese’s Book Club pick that will keep you guessing. Available as an audiobook on Playaway and downloadable on Libby.

 

Laura’s Pick:

A ruse of shadows by Sherry Thomas (2024) ruse of shadows

The Lady Sherlock series just gets better and better. The stakes get higher as what begins as a missing persons case becomes murder—and Charlotte herself is accused. Readers who appreciate a twisty plot will want to check this series out.

 


John’s Picks:

Luck and Strange by David Gilmour (2024) Luck and strange

The fifth studio album by the Pink Floyd alumnus and his first of new material in nine years.  Gilmour’s wife, Polly Sampson, wrote the majority of the lyrics and his daughter, Romany, sings lead vocals on the track, “Between Two Points.”  The title track also features a sampling from former Pink Floyd keyboardist, Richard Wright, who died in 2008.  A follow-up album is also planned.


Gangs of New York (2002) Gangs of New York

An epic historical drama film directed by Martin Scorsese and Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz.  In the film, “Amsterdam” Vallon (played by DiCaprio) seeks revenge for the death of his father against William “Bill the Butcher” Cutting (played by Day-Lewis).   In development for nearly twelve years, the film is a sweeping tale of late nineteenth century New York City.

 

Deadpool/Deadpool 2 Deadpool

The Complete Collection (For Now) (2018): A 2-disc collection of the first two films in the Deadpool series.   Ryan Reynold stars as the title character of Wade Wilson, a mercenary-turned-superhero with a foul mouth and a deadly vendetta against his enemies.  Known for their irreverent humor and near constant breaking of the fourth wall, the movies are a part of the highest-grossing R-rated film series of all time.

 

Lauren’s Pick:

Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis (2024) Dreadful

Unlike its title, this book is not dreadful, but instead humorous and charming. Gav wakes up in a half-destroyed workshop belonging to a dark wizard with no memory of who he is. He quickly realizes that he is the dark wizard—the Dread Lord Gavrax, in fact. If only he could remember why he has kidnapped a princess, and what purpose she serves in his plot with three other dark wizards. Gav bumbles his way through hiding his missing memories from his co-conspirators, forced to face the choices his past self made to determine who he wants to be now.
